ROBERT M. “BOB” SEDEY
A Memorial Mass will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, in Resurrection Catholic Church in Eveleth with Fr. John O’Donnell as celebrant. Visitation will be one hour before services. Inurnment will be in Eveleth Cemetery.
Robert M. “Bob” Sedey, 89, of Eveleth, died Friday, January 8, 2010, at the Virginia Convalescent Center. He was born on May 28, 1920 in Eveleth to John J. and Anna (Rom) Sedey. Bob graduated from Eveleth High School and Eveleth Junior College. He served in the United States Army during World War II with the military police having been stationed in Europe and Normandy. Bob was married to Betty J. Chase in Eveleth on November 15, 1948. He owned and operated with his brothers, Sedey’s Market in Eveleth for many years. Bob was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Frank A. Mancina Council #2583 and Mesaba Range Post 1172 Veterans of Foreign Wars of Eveleth.
He is survived by his wife, Betty and children, Susan (Morlen) Schmidt of St. Joseph, MN., Robert (Gayle) Sedey of Maple Plain, MN., Michele (Michael) Pavelich and Patricia Olson both of Eveleth, Elizabeth (Daniel) Vaught of Duluth and Mary (Richard) Baratta of Eveleth; grandchildren, Jason and Jana Schmidt, Sam (Sylvia) Alexander-Sedey, Jennifer (Joshua) Willmert, Jessica (John) Syverson, Aaron (Chrissy) Sedey, Ryan, Thomas and Eric Pavelich, Robert (Kelly) Olson and Daniel Olson, Anne, Benjamin and Catherine Vaught, Jim and Anthony Baratta; great-grandchildren, McCullen, Gannon, Pierson, Michael, Christopher, Tyler, Ella Grace and Logan; sister-in-law, Ethyl Fondie of Aurora and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings and son-in-law, Gordon “Gordy” Olson. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Virginia Convalescent Center where Bob lived for the past two years. The staff helped make it home for him and we are grateful for their love and care. Their many kindnesses to our husband, father and family are beyond compare.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to the Virginia Convalescent Center or to the Eveleth Public Library.
